We couldn't even bring ourselves to review this film on our blog! We watched it with two of our freinds and all of us fell asleep at some point. I agree with your 2 out of 10!

This is a great review. But I didn't like this movie that much, It was kind of lame! There WERE some scenes that were really impressive though!

Sorry you didn't like it. In my personal opinon the reasons you stated for not liking it were some of the reasons I thought made it so good. The shaky camera style has long sense been a complaint of many people dating back to the first Jason Bourne film, but that has never annoyed me. It makes certain scenes more intense and in Public Enemies gives the documentary style of filming a little more realism. The style of filming I also liked because it was different, instead of telling a story your actually following the characters around as they live the story. It was an interesting way to do it and I actually thought it worked well, but I can certainly see how some people might be turned off by it.

Your comments about Milk are thoughtful and well expressed. Would its release earlier have affected the outcome of Prop. 8? Hard to say. It so happens that my just-released biographical novel, Broken Saint, is a fictionalized account of the life of a gay man I knew for about forty year, and about the internal and external stuggles he endured - exascerbated by his bipolarism. I love the film.. but its not an entertainment movie, and is slow i admit. But that's not the point, it delivers a calm and pacience to it that we in the present age do not posess, and therefore presents an alternative perspective for the average state of the human consciousness, and the possibility that we may be a lot more neutral and transparent in character in future.

A Clockwork Orange is a very visceral movie and may be difficult to watch for some. Still, it is my favorite movie of all time. As far as Eyes Wide Shut, I watched about half of it and I had to turn it off. I don't think I fully got it. To this day it remains only 1 of the 2 Kubrick films I have not sat through completely. The other is Spartacus.

I watched it late last night and was fascinated. I didn't expect to love it but I did! It creeped me out and I actually managed to pay attention to the colours when Bowman was at hyperspeed- I was in a trance (and I was surprised by it-thoughout the 'slow' scenes I began daydreaming) I was so fustrated when I couldn't understand the ending that I couldn't get to sleep! Like you I have truly become a fan of Stanley Kubrick and as my dad says, 'he was ahead of his time'. Kubrick paved the way for future sci-fi movies and that in it itself goes to show you how amazing '2001' is. Doh! I've never written such a long comment- guess the effects of '2001' haven't worn off yet...great review! Have to watch 'A Clockwork Orange'- another one of dad's favourites. Let's hope they have it a the dvd rental place. Fingers crossed! Btw, have you seen 'Eyes Wide Shut'?

Personally, I agree with you on most of your points, it was something that aspired to be great but just couldn't quite deliver. I think Brad Pitt did the best he could with his role, I didn't think that there was much that could've been done with his character, not much underlying emotion or potential for uniqueness. I think the director just handed him the script and said "Oh hey, you're the angry hotheaded cop." Also, I agree that the cast was strong, but I think it was a mismatch for the movie. Try and think of a better cast that could've made it work!
